1. When Dr. Shubalaxmi Acharya came to me to ask me to do the foreword to this book ‘Core Mindsets @ Work’, my initial impression of her was that of a soft person, and how could she be the author of such a book on a core HR subject. But as she spoke about the book I realized she was tough inside and really, really knew her subject very well. She has had a long experience and has a unique mindset of her own to come up with this new angle of Core Mindset.
"The book itself is revealing and educative to all managers , apart from the HR community." For any manager, right up to CEOs, this book is a ‘must read’ to understand psychology of people working for them. There are insights into the different types of mindsets, and also understanding of what job a person will be good at depending on the type of mindset as laid out in the various case studies. All case studies in the book are for real and very educative. An organization would benefit greatly if the tenets explained in Dr. Acharya’s book are imbibed and implemented. Read page 142 which speaks on ‘Teamwork in Harmony’. The book shows how teams work better when A type and P type mindsets are clubbed. Of course you need to read the book to understand the different Types of Mindsets as expounded by the Author.
I think every organization starting with 2 member team to thousands of employees can take advantage of the principles laid out. It is also an interesting read. I could not put the book down once I started reading, and went from page 1 to page 182 in one sitting. " Not only is this a recommended book for managers and decision makers while hiring talent in their organization, its also good for students to make the right choice of career based on their inner Core Mindset."
I recommend companies to distribute the book among key HR and non HR employees, and also to hire Dr. Shubalaxmi Acharya as a consultant to improve their hiring practices on an ongoing basis. I would also recommend institutes to use this book as reference for students before they start a new journey in the corporate world.
I wish Dr. Acharya writes more titles around her subject and gives us more insights.

2. The success of any organisation depends on its people, their competencies and mindset , while working at different levels . In the competitive environment and challenging business situations the employee should have winning mindset, adaptability to change and giving their best in different business situations. The technical and professional skills and expertise are no doubt significant contributing success factors but for long term success mindset and attitude are critical .
The mindset of employees play a very important role in the organisational context as it reflects 360 degree relationships which are visible in winning culture through collaborative approach , better interpersonal relations, improved focus on goals and productivity, customer focus, greater accountability and business results. Therefore, the organisations need to focus on this behavioural aspect at different stages of employee life cycle in the organisation.
The book “ Core Mindsets @Work ...360 Degree Human Behavioural Outlook” written by Dr Shubalaxmi J Acharya is a noble attempt to relate core mindsets of the people to the workplace issues ,situations and its behavioural manifestation on relationships which have bearing on the organisational performance. She has meticulously given shape to her experiences of human behaviour supported by research findings in the form of case studies to illustrate how the mindset differentiate people and she has developed a tool called Core Mindset Mapping (CMM) using AGPL formula. This tool will be quite useful in talent sourcing process and also in development process of identified talent pool members.
She has highlighted 11 types of mindsets and how each of these types functions and impacts the working environment. She has elaborated the four strong individual mindsets ie “A” Type, “G” Type, “P” Type and “L” Type mentioning their strong and weak characteristics . Further , she has explained the combination of these types of mindsets in combination of two types resulting into Naturally Compatible Mindset, Complementary and Enhancing Mindset, Opposing Mindset and Mixed Mindset with their strong and weak characteristics. In each of the 22 case studies covering the different industrial sectors she has analysed the mindsets of its role occupants and the resultant behaviour and outcome.
This book will serve as an user friendly guide to understand the core mindsets and its applications and reflections in different stages of the organisational working ranging from apprenticeship to leadership. The learning from the book will help in influencing mindset and behavioural change both at individual and organisational levels.
Dr Shubalaxmi J Acharya deserves appreciation to put such a value packed experiential learning for the benefits of practicing managers, management students and academics.

4. Dr. Shubalaxmi has in a very simple manner put people in 11 categories and a model to assign right work to right people.

5. "A square peg in round hole" is an old adage. It has been recognized for long that an individual must suit the requirement of the job he is asked to undertake. Considering the wide diversity in the personalities of various individuals it is a necessary and useful exercise to see whether the personality of the individual identified for a particular assignment suits the requirements of that assignment.
Dr. Shubalaxmi J Acharya is a Behavioural Scientist and a Strategic Human Resource Consultant. On the basis of the vide and deep experience through indepth interviews of over 4000 candidates across management cadre for placements in different companies, Dr. Shubalaxmi has developed a core mindset mapping tool which she has lucidly presented in this book.
Dr.Shubalaxmi starts by dividing the mindsets into four categories, A,G,P and L. Combination of two of these mindsets leads to six more categories each with two 2 mindsets. The last category is a mindset which contains elements of all the four basic categories. The author has thus identified 11 specific types of human beings. Thereafter she has tried to identify the job requirements of various jobs and appropriate mindset for it. This has been illustrated with 22 case studies. The book has been illuminated by a number of apt quotations. I am reproducing one of them below by way of illustration:
“Champions aren’t made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them - a desire, a dream, a vision.”
On the whole it is an interesting book. While some readers may not fully agree with the classification of the mindsets and their combinations it definitely provides a valuable insight into selection of persons for a job after taking into account the personality of the person and the requirement of the job. When these two match, you have an effective organization. If the personality of the employee does not meet the job requirement, you have a disgruntled employee in a efficient organisation.
It will be immensely useful for CEO, Manager and HR department to select and assign roles to people.
On the whole it is a useful book for all managers.

6. Human Behaviour is the most complex of all. With each individual displaying a wide range of emotions, attributes, it makes it even more complex to unveil the mystery. It is said “People are quite predictable” which is an irony to me. Had this been the truth organisations wouldn’t have failed. On the other hand, understanding behaviour though a formidable challenge, it offers great rewards too if correctly understood.
Coming to the book “Core Mindsets @ work” provides a great insight on the types of Mindsets that exist today at workplace. The examples provided in the book are great and can be related to the everyday situation at workplace.
This book is like an Oasis in the desert for those who are struggling to connect the dots between the required output from a desired human resource. In today’s era, quality of output & quality of human are inseparable. According to me, this book will facilitate confused minds and complex situations where people do not have their professional lives aligned to their passion. The simple language used in the book is going to be the key reason in attracting many avid readers like me.
I hope to use the examples and the theories given in the book in the near future. I hope others benefit from it as well.
